Sovereign Munitions Mission Plan

At Sovereign Munitions, we try and live up to our claim of being the supreme ruler of the Designer weapons industry. Our goal when setting out on a product is to make sure it adheres to the client’s needs and then some. Whether you wish for poison that takes a millisecond to turn someone exposed to it into a small viscous pool of puss or a laser assault rifle that harnesses the power of plutonium to irradiate an area the size of 7 Chernobyls, nothing is a challenge for Sovereign Munitions. We strive to go beyond the scope of imagination for our products, making sure every single creation’s deadliness is unique and never alike to past or future commissions; a staff of top designers, scientists and engineers ready to meet all customization demands the client may have for an extra fee. Remember, if it’s not from Sovereign Munitions, it pales in comparison.

Homework 8- Peer Critique 2

From a single glance, this is a very intriguing movie poster with many layers. This movie poster has a clear animated base, whether this is an animated movie or just a realistic movie with a cartoonist movie poster. This poster has the appearance of a horror film with the human protagonist running away from a ghoulish figure reaching out to grasp the man. The red balloon may be a metaphorical representation of innocence and the monster hungers to grab and eradicate that innocence. The horror genre of the film comes across easily from the image. The animated quality of the poster helps to let the monster express its horror aspect. The dark and light tones of purple and black work nicely to make a good atmosphere for the movie. The red balloon and the shadow figure make for a good contrast. The wave of darkness in the background gives a great ominous feel to the image. The shadow of the monster could be a little more defined. The light purple background could be a shade darker to mak...

Overall, I believe the poster is very well done. There's definitely a sense of introspection being shown in the person's eyes. The man in the image gives the impression that he is deep in contemplation about his life. The subtext sentence located at the top of the poster only enhances this impression, saying "It's time to debug his life.", giving some context that the main character is in deep thought because he wants to make a big change in his life. I cannot tell if the rubber ducks are metaphorical or actually important to the plot of the movie.  The title and the font used for the wording in the poster matches well with the other colors in the image. The Colors overall are well done, they do not clash with each other and help to enhance the vibrancy of the image.  The gray and navy blue of the clothing, as well as the aquamarine blue of the ocean water and the yellow font with the red highlight show a good use of combining primary colors. The manipulation o...

Homework 7 Response

What I can take from Milton Glaser's TED Talk is that when you have an idea for a project, it's never bad to break it down and analyze the idea for all it's worth. When he was trying to make a poster based on the Alexander Pope poem he could not figure out what to make from the idea of the poem. He then broke down the words of the poem and examined all aspects for ideas. His result was a very different poster that somehow ended up working out; even though it strays away from the basic idea of a poster which is to let the image do all the explaining because his poster did some explaining and even gave another solution using the other design he created for the poster. The way he was able to build off of his other design in both that poster and the one he discusses later in the TED Talk in order to create a new perspective was so unique and peculiar. It gives me something to think about; whenever I have a project and I go through multiple ideas, when I pick one I want to go wi...

Clocking Out Movie Plot

Every self-respecting person with a dream has one pretty outstanding fear. That he or she does not end up in some pathetic middle manager position at a branch office of some obscure corporation no one can actually say what in God's name they produce. In other words, that they do not end up becoming Michael Valdo, Assistant Department Supervisor at the branch office of Bezarin Corp. in San Diego. When it comes down to it, Michael's 32 years of life have been the epitome of mediocrity and it is getting more and more difficult everyday to maintain his false disposition of satisfaction and happiness. Valdo is at the end of his rope and comes up with only one idea to give his miserable existence some meaning and show he actually put some effort into something for once, finding the coolest solution for killing himself.

After reading the article, I never really imagined the scale of the beauty-re-imaging industry. In the digital age we live in, it's easy for a wide array of rumors and secrets to leak out; it's just difficult to believe and figure out what rumors are true or false. So it doesn't really surprise me how much actors and celebrities have their photos and films altered to look a certain way that makes them look more rejuvenated and youthful. Technology has advanced to the point where many times you cannot distinguish what's real or fake in a person's image. Hollywood, where actors/actresses work out of, would undoubtedly be the center of this false imaging trend because the majority of actors/actresses livelihood is based on their looks.

It was so interesting to read about Dustin Stanton's exploits as a movie poster designer. It enlightened on many aspects of being a movie poster designer. Like when being an artist/designer, you end up working for different agencies and such, moving around to different agencies for work and learning from the experiences you had in those different agencies. His outlooks on designing movie posters, how many poster designs end up getting used for other things like DVD and Blu-ray designs for movies, as well as tours promoting the movie. Stanton's passion for making designs and what he said about being around other artists so you don't become complacent is something I will take to heart for my future. I was fascinated when Stanton also said that when making a poster for a specific need for the movie, like a teaser poster, it can be difficult when trying to balance the artistic and commercial importance of a movie poster and how at every step of designing, the design needs to be...

Favorite Movie Poster

Image
Currently, my favorite movie poster would be the one for Avengers Endgame. I love the movie poster's colors and just the tone it's portraying. But I also love the amount of brilliant actors this movie had and how they were able to highlight them so beautifully in this poster. This movie also held a lot of meaning for many Marvel fans like myself in that this movie was the culmination of 11 years of planning and work for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reach such an epic conclusion. No one really knew how well this movie would actually do but this poster did not fail in displaying how epic this film would be.

In the article, I really enjoyed the Nike's Chief of Design outlook on everything. He isn't bothered by his dyslexia, he is grateful it allows him to look at the world differently. He's also very active and tries to interact with the designers he leads instead of sitting in his office all day. It is also interesting to see sort of how the creative process for designing is at Nike and how their is a clear creative direction they want in a season and then they just let the 1000 designers at Nike work off of that direction and let them do as they wish with it. He's not afraid of technology and welcomes the possibilities it can give them, like working with data down to an atom or new materials that can help old designs that were ahead of their time but needed the correct materials and tech that they have now.

Homework 2 Response

I first found it so interesting how Niels Diffrient first started out designing airplanes and then how later on he would find the "romance" he described in the Ted Talk not in airplanes anymore but just in designing overall. Another thing I can take away from this video is when designing a product, you have to think about really the ins and outs of people's preferences that a product will adhere to. He also talked about how there will be people with situations and circumstances that, when designing the product, will not be able to be accommodated. You can't please everybody is an old phrase but a very true statement. What I can say overall is designing, even when designing something ordinary like a chair, is a complicated process.
